Here we are with a February 29th on the calendar. There is a link to interesting facts and tibits about Leap Year to be found here.
March is just hours away and with it I expect that we will have some outdoor bicycling weather this month. This coming Friday we should see temps in the mid 50's but thunderstorms are on tap also for that day so it'll be a wait and see. I've had some time to ride the indoor trainer this winter but not as much as I would have liked to. Remarkable is that there were outdoor riding opportunities in both January and February. It's been an extraoridnary winter in Michigan.
Eskimo Costumed Chilly Dipper |
Normally we have a couple of big winter events with an ice fishing tournament and ice hockey on the lake but neither event could take place this year due to lack of safe ice. We had just enough ice for our Kiwanis Club to hold their 4th annual Chilly Dip, wherein incredibly brave people jump into the icy waters of Whitmore Lake. A couple of photos are included. More fun yet is that those choosing to dip do it in costume! Our Chilly Dip took place on Saturday February 18th and with help from the Washtenaw County Sheriff Dive Team it was a safe event. Too bad the onlookers had to watch from shore just a few yards away as the ice would not support a crowd. Yours truly wore a PFD (personal flotation device just in case) while taking the "official" photos for the club. As mild as winter has been as bad luck for the dippers would have it, it was one of our coldest and windy days all winter.
