Welcome!

It's a new year and time once again to give a new look to this blog. New graphics and colors. Same bike writer!

This blog is created not only to track my own progress on my biking journey but it is intended to also assist others who have either osteo or rheumatoid arthritis or both like I do. I hope as you read about the progress I have made that it gives you inspiration and hope that you can overcome the dibilitating effects of these conditions.

If your doctor agrees that you should be capable of expanding your limits read on and don't be afraid, just listen to your body and give it challenges. Biking is a great non-impact form of exercise and greatly enhances flexibility and range of motion.

It's not a substitute for Doctor visits, taking your meds or otherwise getting off your health plan but it auguments what your Doctor does for you and can give you a better quality of life. Go for it!

Sunday April 17, 2011 Palm Sunday

My sister was taken on an emergency to the hospital on Thursday and I've spent the last few days with her. She is doing very much better and is at home, however we have all had a fright. My two sisters are my best friends and we are a very close family. I always enjoyed the privilege of being the youngest in the family, however sometime in my forties I realized that that pleasure has it's down side as well and that is that I will most likely be alone in my later years as one sister is 15 years older than me and the other is 16 years older than me. This means that most likely I will be left alone without them at some point. This realization has come as a blessing in the sense that I make more time here and now to spend with them. Rather than put off a casual dinner or vist because work has me bogged down, I reprioritize and make my schedule include even more visiting than usual. And overnight visits for a day or two together have become more common in the last few years. It's not like we live far, less than 30 miles, it's just that we all make a point to spend more time together. The bottom dropped out of the thermometer and we had snow flurries today and it's predicted to have a covering of snow overnight. Brrrrrr. Still, this is Michigan and I expect to get some rides in this week as we are supposed to have a couple of nice days later on in the week. The last several days have been cold, windy and rainy.

  1. Best wishes to your sister for a full and fast recovery.

    I have 3 younger sisters, they're fantastic!

I hope the snow disappears swiftly. No snow here, but it's turned grey and cool. I want the sunshine back!
